San Juan Island's Original Sea Kayak Outfitters & Guides Since 1980

Make everyday Earth Day

Earth Day is celebrated around the world on April 22 to celebrate the environment and bring public awareness to the problem of pollution.  Since 1980 San Juan Kayak Expeditions has always held strong in its commitment to lessen the human impact on this planet.  We celebrate the environment on every kayak trip and tour we lead.

Over the last 38 years we have seen science make incredible advances on reducing pollution with industrial reforms.  At the same time we have seen an increase in pollution and waste from the conveniences of society.  We challenge you to think about the impact you have on this earth and to make some changes to your lifestyle that will lessen your negative impact on the earth.

My biggest pet peeve is plastic water bottles.  Are you still buying water in plastic bottles; tossing (recycling) the bottle and then opening another, and another and another…?  Stop.  Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year. According to Food and Water Watch, that plastic requires up to 47 million gallons of oil per year to produce.

Have you heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch?  It is a giant floating garbage dump swirling around the Pacific Ocean killing the sea animals and birds we all love.

Just do it.  Stop buying bottled water; there are better alternatives.  When you have accomplished this move on to buying coffee, with the paper cup, paper sleeve and plastic lids.  There are less polluting alternatives.
