Kayak Rentals

If you wish to embark on a self-guided adventure, you may rent double sea kayaks(sorry, I don’t rent singles) and necessary equipment from San Juan Kayak Expeditions.  I specialize in multi-day rentals!  Rentals include two-person, fiberglass, rudder-controlled Seascape II’s made by Northwest Kayaks (made for long distance touring), Werner fiberglass paddles, Snapdragon Designs spray skirts, PFD’s (life jackets)by Patagonia, bailing pumps, flares, sponges, a detailed, written itinerary of your route and in-depth instruction on the beach.

Rental fee also includes charts, repair/spare parts kit, cockpit covers to keep rain and dew out at night and my knowledge and experience in helping to plan your trip(trip planning will cover tides and currents, campgrounds, specific wildlife areas, fresh water logistics, a written route itinerary, etc…).

Upon receipt of your registration form, I will send you an equipment list and other information that will help you prepare for your journey.

Please add 7.8% sales tax. A four days or more rental discount is available at $70 per day after the first day. Rental fee includes: paddles, PFDs, spray skirts, bailing pumps, sponges, chart, repair/spare parts kit, flares, cockpit covers, written itinerary, detailed instruction on the beach, pick up and return to ferry terminal and my help in planning your adventure.

In addition, I supply free transportation from the ferry to my launch site and return to the ferry landing in Friday Harbor at trip’s end.  Just walk onto the ferry with your gear, and I will meet you here when it arrives.  Simple!   If you have your own vehicle, you may park it for the duration at my secure shop, or I have foam racks with which to attach a kayak to your car, and you may transport the boat to a launch site of your choice.  Any questions?  Just give me a call or send an e-mail.  You will find that this is the company you have been looking for!  Renting double kayaks from San Juan Kayak Expeditions is a hassle-free and educational experience.

I DO NOT RENT PLASTIC SEA KAYAKS OR PADDLES OR BEAT-UP EQUIPMENT! The boats you rent will be new, fiberglass, lightweight, fast, sleek, comfortable and stable. The paddles are state-of-the-art fiberglass, lightweight and efficient.  If you are shopping around, ask what equipment you will be getting before making any commitment.  My rental fees may be slightly more than other companies. Good service, knowledgeable assistance and quality gear are worth it!  Also, I rent two-person tents, sleeping bags and pads for a nominal fee.

I can rent kayaks to larger groups such as family or high school reunions, scout troops, wedding parties, executive retreats and educational groups.

Note: I will help you plan a safe trip by using my thirty-two years of experience paddling in these islands, by offering quality sea kayaking equipment and by giving you in-depth instruction before you launch. Taking into account the strength of the tides, wind and weather forecasts, your experience, the type of adventure you want, etc., I will work with you to formulate an itinerary of campgrounds, hiking opportunities, alternate routes(in case of weather), danger areas to avoid, wildlife areas, etc. If I am out guiding a trip, my helpful and competent rental staff will be here to assist you.
